Alopecia areata info
Alopecia areata, Latin for patchy baldness, is an autoimmune disease in which cells from your immune system mistakenly attack the hair follicles, causing hair loss. This usually happens on the scalp, but can also affect other hair‑bearing areas such as the eyebrows, beard, armpits and pubic region.
Hair often falls out in round patches, coin‑sized spots spread across the scalp. In more severe cases, hair can come out in large clumps or be shed more evenly across the entire scalp; in rare cases this leads to complete baldness (Alopecia Totalis) or loss of all hair on the head and body (Alopecia Universalis). Typical signs include oval round bald patches with broken, thinning hairs at the edges and sometimes flaking of the skin. Alopecia areata can occur in both men and women, at any age and in people of all backgrounds.
For this condition, Chierah Hair & Beauty offers solutions in the form of custom hairpieces, wigs and hair systems, tailored to your situation and wishes.
